BOINC Pentathlon 2020
SETI.Germany are running the BOINC Pentathlon again this year, and we'll be participating. The pentathlon will be running from the 5th of May to the 19th of May, across five separate projects in five disciplines. The first project will be announced in about a week's time.

You can read the rules and structure of the pentathlon here, and I'll post more information to this thread as we get it :)

RE: BOINC Pentathlon 2020
The first project for the Pentathlon has been announced! Rosetta@Home is the Marathon project for the 2020 BOINC Pentathlon, and all credits earned from midnight on the 5th of May 2020 through to 11:59pm on the 18th of May 2020 (UTC) will be counted in the competition.

Obviously our residual users from the Combined Community Charity Challenge all of those years ago mean that we have a pretty strong backbone on Rosetta, so this is a good pick for us, but there's going to be pretty strong competition, so if you can recruit anyone to join in, please do.

You can read the full announcement on the SETI.Germany website here.

And they've also just announced the Javelin Throw. NumberFields@Home is the Javelin Throw project, and the first Javelin Throw will be occuring on the 5th of May (from midnight to midnight UTC).

The Javelin Throw works by having 5 separate "throws", each a 24 hour period, and your third best credit gains out of those five days will be your score for the event. Each throw will be announced 3 days in advance, so we'll have some time to prepare.

Great. I just got the 3950x up and running.  Plus, the water cooler will show up tomorrow which will stop the throttling I’m getting.  Are these CPU or GPU-based?  I’m not familiar with non-Rosetta projects.

Rosetta is currently CPU only, though IIRC they're working on GPU tasks but that's probably not going to be ready anytime soon.

The City Run has been announced: it's Universe@Home from the 7th of May (00:00) through to the 11th of May (23:59). All credits earned in this period will count.

PoNyePiC: NumberFields@Home has GPU applications. Since there is no other GPU event at the moment, you might as well run that as GPU-only while running your choice of Rosetta or Universe on CPU. Only tasks validated on the Javelin Throw days will count, but you can build yourself up a backlog of pending tasks in the mean time.

NumberFields@home doesn't seem to be sending me and GPU tasks, and I do think my settings are correct. Maybe they suddenly ran out as everyone set their devices to run on it? :D

Do you have 'Use GPU Always' selected under the 'Activity' menu?  I did that, then went to the 'Projects' tab and hit 'Update' for that project.  Then it downloaded GPU projects after several seconds.

That being said, I switched to just doing Rosetta again now that I have the new water cooler installed.  I gained about 500Mhz across all 16 cores compared to the small air cooler I originally had.  Runs at a happy 81°C now YayHeart

The Cross Country project has been announced: Amicable Numbers, starting at 00:00 UTC on the 12th of May, and ending at 23:59 UTC on the 16th of May.

Amicable Numbers is a GPU project, so I would strongly recommend running NumberFields@Home on GPU until 00:00 on the 11th of May, then swapping to Amicable Numbers and running that until 23:59 on the 16th.

For the CPU projects we're still looking at Universe for three more days, and Rosetta of course for the entire remaining duration of the event. Right now Universe seems a bit more stable than it was yesterday, which is good.

Day 3 of the Javelin Throw has been announced: the 14th of May.

The Universe@Home City Run ends in 7 hours, but we're in a VERY tight battle for 24th through 26th there (within 7k points of #24 right now!), so try to swap over to Rosetta+Amicable at the last possible minute there.

The sprint is running on Ibercivis 2, from 00:00 on the 16th of May, to 23:59 on the 18th of May. Note that if you've previously run Ibercivis in years gone by, this is actually a new project, so make sure you follow that URL and join the team there.

Meanwhile in the Javelin Throw, Day 4 is happening on the 15th of May. Although not officially confirmed, I believe that Day 5 is now required to run on the 18th of May.

We're doing well in Amicable Numbers, keep up the good work :)
