Saw add on Derpibooru. Was like; "Oooh, science. Maybe..." Then was like; "Wowzahs, science IRL! I'm up for that!"

I'm SciTwi on the thingy. Joined the team and that jazz.

But I'm a little confused. I've got a dual core, each has a 2.4 GHz processor, and yet it only says I'll be doing just ~11,000 points/day, even on "high" and "While I'm working," - and I've got nothing else running except the rest of my browser's tabs and notepad. Is something wrong, here? I'm seeing millions of points from some users...

When you first start, the client is confused about how many points you actually get, because technical computer science reasons. Let it complete a work unit or two after just starting to get a better idea what your points per day is.

Some people have millions of PPD because they have thousands of dollars and spend it on computers designed for that purpose. Do not be daunted by this. Only one pony has gone above 1mill PPD and ended up selling one of the computers because no bits left for food. As a whole, Folding@home is the worlds largest supercomputer by a rather large margin, and only continues to grow because of people like you.

Ah, okay, thanks. It's still reporting zero points after running for quite a few hours, though...

But yeah. I'll continue to be "Dauntless." It's better to be SBD than TBD, anyways.

Twilightblush

It's odd how it's acting, though. Does it need administrator privileges or compatibility mode or anything?

Ooh, count me in! "Hey! I love you guys (espically you tiwake!) and I want to join the competition. My folding name is bronyracer even though my username on this forum is shadowbolt82."

I haven't really done much folding since I got into crypto mining, which I stopped a while ago when I got tired of paying huge electric bills. Oh well, I can live on ramen for a while. For science! And ponies! Derpytongue2

It takes a while to update. The interface is, to put it in my words, annoying. I.e http://puu.sh/dMrYu/033ef5b461.jpg and it doesn't always open right.
Plus, for me it's doing things on evil American time, which is on a bad schedule in comparision to Australian time.

Noob question: Is there a way for me to use an Android device instead to take part, like with the Htc power to give thing?
I don't use my computer that much.

Not possible if it is ARM based. Folding@home only works on x86 based processors because the core of it is hand written in assembly. I really hope this changes sometime in the future because I don't like x86 assembly and all the extensions that go with it.

The Folding project is missing out on a lot of proccessing power with all these high-end quad-core smartphones out there nowadays. Personally I think they should get Folding to run on mining ASICS, or just design Folding ASICS. Then PPD/watt would be greatly improved. I see something like this happening in the future.

Would be nice if they did. Several BOINC projects take advantage of smartphones, and it certainly is a big chunk of processing power that would be missing out. I mean, my N5 is leaps and bounds more powerful than my laptop!

Hello, I found your ad on Derpibooru, and it looked whimsical. I come to find out that I can use my average processing power to actually do something, and I'm ecstatic! My name is Danpyre, and your OC is best pony.

Because I don't think my GPU is supposed to be stunted like this.
