Yeah, its way better. And quieter!

Indeed. I'm going to replace my AS5 paste with some NT-H1 and see if that will squeeze out a few extra degrees in addition to fixing what I hope was a bad mount on the thermal pads. It feels so bad to have won the highest possible lottery with the 6850k (pushing 4.9 now!) and I can't even get +50mhz on the gpu...

Seems to work well.. I still have a ton of it

My two strix 1080s run at 68-72C at 35% fan speed, and my LAPTOP 1070 is running at 64C. Sure it's louder, but holy crap one tiny fan vs 3 and it's cooler? If i max the fan speed on my 1080s, they lower to around 58-62C.

Anyways, that's my experience... Gonna replace the thermal paste with arctic silver 5 most likely. I've got the MX-4 and the Silver 5, the Silver 5 averages 1-3C lower than the MX-4. Done 3 tests on my old system with the i7 4790k (all tests averaged). You can also search for some videos on youtube about it. If you are all about this kinda stuff, i'm gonna guess this info is gonna help ya out :D

It's also 1C better than IC Diamond from tests online, though I don't have personal experience with that.

Eh... it's more important that you put the right amount of thermal paste on

For me temps differ by like at least 5 degrees because I can't get it right... *sigh*

Be careful applying AS5 to a gpu. Its technically conductive and can screw up your day.

Yeah, I'd take the 1-2°C higher temps and go with MX-4, personally

I'll let you guys know how the nt-h1 goes. Supposedly its better than both of them.

Woot! Thermal pads replaced and nt-h1 applied. Ran 3dmark in a 5 hour loop and didn't go above 34c on the GPU core.

I'll likely ask about watercooling and what to get once I get closer to replacing my desktop computer sometime later this year. Rainbowkiss Twilightblush

I just wanted to mention that I asked derpibooru to run a generic folding@home ad for use, and they agreed. We are starting to see some new ponies folding for our team \o/

I... what kind of computers are you running folding@home on?

Whatever they are, they are insane

Because of all the new ponies... we are going to smash our previous record points in a day, today, which is 17,059,427

I have some legacy servers at work that are 4-5 years old, but still work pretty well. I will eventually have to re-purpose them, but until then they can help us out. They are mostly 2P Xeon E5-2650 and E5-2650v2 and a few E5-2667v2 cpus. They don't have any GPUs however.

Supposedly the AMD Epyc should be monsters for folding@home... single precision floating point operations is what folding@home mostly deals with, if I remember correctly. One of these days I need to get my own house so I can have such awesomeness.

Can you run these computers for 2 months solid though january/febuary? going to have a big competition and I'm going to challenge Team AnandTech that peaked at 50mill points/day for their last competition.

Unfortunately I can't guarantee that I won't have to re-purpose them by then. There is a good chance I will be able to run them for the next few months however and there are still a few more servers I can add too.
