Oops, My Bad Derpytongue2Derpytongue2Derpytongue2

Unfortuantely, I can't control my spending. I may have accidentally bought another R9 290x to add to the collection. That will bring me up to ten AMD R9 cards. I'd eventually like to trade them all in for some 295x2's. If someone will do me the honor of researching the PPD of one of those cards, that would be much appreciated. It should be roughly double the PPD of the 290x. Usually newer GPUs need to be on the market for a good few months before Folding becomes productive enough. I'd love to buy some Folding ASICS, like people get for mining, but those may not exist for awhile, if ever at all.

In other news, we are set to move UP the leaderboard this winter. By the time we wrap up winter, we should be at least three or four positions higher YayHeartYay

Build your house instead. That way, you can design the heating system to be a giant water cooling loop for a supercomputer you have in the basement!

I was seriously thinking of a radiant floor loop. Heated floors are wonderful in the winter.

Radiant floor heating is also much, much more efficient than forced air, so there's that too. Just a little expensive to set up initially.

Erm, if its concrete flooring with heating in the concrete, its really _really_ expensive. There isnt a nice way to insulate it either. For my house I def. want ICF walls, and probably stained cement floors. Problem with that is the floors like to stay coldish, and heating it is bloody expensive because the concrete is kind of thermally conductive and not something that can be insulated very well for the flooring.

Concrete as a building material is fantastic and cheap... I want my house to be basically made entirely of the stuff

ICF is the way to go for walls, sure, but in-floor heating isn't expensive. It takes a long time to heat up, yes, but once heated the concrete stays so, as opposed to air which quickly cools/leaves the house through drafts/opening doors/etc. Trust me, in-floor heating is much, much more efficient to maintain than forced air and many times more efficient than baseboard heating. It's just more expensive to set up, since you need all the control systems, the boiler, along with a specialist to install it. You can install the piping yourself if you have some strong hands and a little bit of time. Trust me on this one Tiwake, I've built many houses and in-floor has trumped all other heating systems for comfort and efficiency.

Also, insulation depends on where the slab will be. Usually just 2-inch styrofoam is fine if it's below-ground, but if you want to really make sure you can do a 4-ft frost wall around your slab.

Alternatively, you could save a lot of technical trickery and just move to northern Russia.

Hey I've got a Facehoof question, when clicking on your user name under the "advanced control" app it opens a webpage to the stanford site with stats what does the "active client" mean? Is it just how many stanford servers you have connected to?
