So yeah... this coming competition I think there will be some really awesome prizes. At the very least, I'll probably offer a pony engraved zippo lighter as usual, but still... I suspect there will be at least one plushy involved. Maybe a video card?

One of you ponies competing should get an NVIDIA Tesla for the next competition. With bonus points coming to video card work units, a Tesla should get amazing PPD.
ill porbly doante wallpaper art commishs XD

6 of them XD
Hey! It could be winter for some (like Australia master race)!

Anyway, I do plan on at least one plushie, which I should be able to buy with the money made from ads, but I'm not sure if we can afford a video card just yet.

Also, any suggestions on what kind of show-related prizes would help.
If I were to donate one of my GTS 450s, would it be restricted to the completely random prize winners? Somehow, I don't feel that sending a new graphics card off to someone with multiple processors or GPUs is the most practical action.
I don't see why not. I can add a little smallprint to the prize list stating the conditions, where we could exclude those who won in overall points. Technically, it's your donation, so you have every right to decide what group of people should get a chance of winning it.
Looking forward to this competition. Hopefully by the time it starts I'll have my new computer up an running, which means I might actually have a shot at doing well.

As far as show related merch goes, I've always been a fan of the blindbag ponies, as well as the moulded derpy/doctor whooves/etc figures.

It has always been my intention that any major prizes (plushies, GPUs, etc) be distributed using the points-based random selection for this exact reason. Generally, if you're the top folder on the team, you can afford to buy your own GPU.

(Also, main prize is a Titan)
However, will people who win prizes for overall points be able to win the plushie? Because I would be devastated if they couldn't.

Are you serious about the Titan?
Yes: they'll be entered into the random draw, and if they win that for the main prize, it will take precedent over the total points win.

In order of precedent:
"Main prize(s)" assigned semi-randomly amongst all users.
All remaining prizes picked from by the pure points winners.
All remaining prizes picked from by the semi-random winners
All remaining prizes picked from by the random winners

I wish.
Honestly, I'll have to disagree on the plushies. MLP merch should be available to everyone in the current way we do things. Hardware, I definitely agree with, for obvious reasons. No point giving someone with a 670 SLI setup a 560ti or something, when others run integrated (eww).

We need to discuss this further in IRC.
I think that a 'community choice' prize with a random winner from among those that qualify would be good. It's just a tad unfair that only those with powerful rigs can win the best stuff.

Perhaps, to make it most fair for everyone, anybody who has folded regularly gets one chance to win a community chosen prize. If someone who already won one of the other prizes (IE: Top contributors, and points based draw winners) wins the community one as well, they can either choose either to accept the community one, or choose from the remaining lists of prizes. If they choose the community one, another points based random draw will occur to fill the gap.

Using the above method ensures that nobody misses out on potentially winning the community choice item (avoiding a 'What if one of the top contributors wanted it?' situation).
Either it's because I just woke up, or because I'm dumb, but can you clarify that? Didn't really understand much of it.
I'll do a flowchart. People like flowcharts yes?

Community votes on a prize that anypony can win, as long as they were a regular folder (Each person gets one 'ticket') > Folding competition ends > Regular winners are determined (Top points based and random) > Everyone who regularly contributed (including existing winners) gets entered into the community choice pool > Winner is chosen randomly from that pool > Continued on Branch 1, and Branch 2:

Branch 1 > Winner of community choice prize hasn't won anything else, gets community choice prize with no additional fuss
Branch 2 > Winner of Community choice prize has also won either one of the top total points slots, or points based random > Winner chooses either their points based prize, or the Community prize > The prize given up is re-entered in a random draw system (optionally points-based, or just 'everyone who hasn't won anything and has been a regular folder').

Naturally, the if branch 2 occurs, the actual finalized distribution of prizes will have to wait until they've decided. It's not much of an additional wait really.
